I'm Amber and I'm the owner and creator of Neon Marl.
Having studied for a BA (hons) in Textile Design at University, I then became a fabric buyer and worked for Karen Millen , Whistles and French Connection - these roles gave me an eye and understanding for a quality product and an insight into the retail fashion world.
Upon becoming a mum in 2004, I decided to stay at home for a few years to raise my 2 boys and relocated out of London to Bedfordshire.
In 2010, I retrained as a secondary school teacher , teaching Textile Design. During this time, much of it spent encouraging students to work hard and follow their dreams, it occurred to me that I had always dreamt of running my own business and should listen to my own advice!
In July 2016 I left my teaching post and in November 2016, Neon Marl was born - bringing together all the skills and experiences I have encountered through my life and a love of all things neon, metallic and simple & (mostly) geometric form.
In June 2019, a business-defining and life-changing moment occurred when Virgin Radio news girl, Rachel Horne, wore a Neon Marl rainbow-printed hoodie to work. The distinctive design sparked Virgin Radio host Chris Evans to start talking about the hoodie live on-air. Within 24 hours, I had received a year’s worth of orders and gained over 10,000 Instagram followers. With no sign of slowing down, Neon Marl’s following now stands at +30K and my business is going from strength to strength.
